Obama Heads Out On Bus Tour-Plans Stop In SC To Pan For Gold

A sharp-eyed So Carolina trooper pulled over the bus after business attired men started running when he spotted them down at the Harris farm creek on their knees with gold pans.

President Obama will kick off a three-day bus trip through small towns in politically competitive North Carolina and South Carolina, but White House officials insist the trip is about jobs, not panning for gold as some reports suggest.

So much so, in fact, that they convened a conference call Sunday to reiterate that point several times, pointing out that the trip is fully on the President’s time, not the president’s re-election campaign’s.

David Axlerod gave a few off-hand remarks, “Look, if he finds a few nuggets good for him, right? He’s gotta have a few victories once in awhile.”

‘The message to the American people and to Congress will be clear,” said principal deputy spokesman Josh Earnest. “Pass the bill this week to protect the job of a Carolina teacher, or come down here, look her in the eye and say…Here, here’s your gold pan do it yourself!”

Well, you get the idea. Obama’s message for the next three days will be to challenge Congress, particularly Republicans, to support key elements of his jobs plan or explain why they won’t get out there and pan for themselves.

The trip coincides with a new legislative strategy for Obama and congressional Democrats. Now that Senate Republicans have blocked the full $447 billlion jobs plan from being considered, Democrats are breaking it apart.

Meanwhile, in Washington, Democrats have called for a recess so they too can skeedaddle up to South Carolina and hire some illegal Mexicans to pan for them.

That’s one of the best headlines I have seen in a long time!

Just one weensy thing worries me in that ‘“Look, if he finds a few nuggets good for him, right? He’s gotta have a few victories once in awhile” line.

    Nuggets?
    More like Chicken McNuggets!
    Ha.
