Millions Iranians of flocked to their roofs on Tuesday to see Pepsi Cola go where no soda had gone before… space. The Russia Times reports false rumors had been circling around Iranian social networks and Iranian websites for days claiming that the Pepsi Cola Company was planning on using high powered lasers to create the ultimate out-of-this-world advertisement…their logo on the side of the moon. Unfortunately for the million of duped stargazers the logo never showed.

“We got fooled by the Joos” said a journalist in Tehran according to French TV. “My colleagues and I gazed at the moon for several minutes and saw nothing.” He admitted that his girlfriend had expressed skepticism, asking him why no international news stations had picked up the story to which he had simply replied that the agencies wouldn’t want to advertise for Pepsi. The man did hint that in sexually suppresed Iran, thousands of other young men had a chance to be alone with women after dark for the first time in 35 years

Some of those duped got revenge in the best way possible: indulging in a can of nemesis Coca Cola.

This is not the first time Iranians have fallen victim to such a hoax. The Russia Times notes that in 1979, following the Iranian revolution, people waited for Ayatollah Khomeini to appear on the moon only to be equally disappointed.

Official Iranian TV called it ‘western propaganda’ namely because the Pepsi logo looked strangely similar to Barack Obama’s campaign logo.
