NATO forces confirmed today that a US Air Force F-16 shot down a Taliber fighter fighter after it crossed over into Afghanistan air space after ignoring requests that it turn around.
Air Force officials say the pilot shot several warning bursts in front of the Taliban fighter, but it didn’t acknowledge the warning, instead it appeared to take evasive action. Finally, the US jet slammed a missle into the fighter. The pilot reported that there was no escape parachute spotted and wreakage hasn’t been spotted in the rugged mountains. The pilot’s wingman in another F-16 captured the action on a hand held digtal camera.
Officials say this is the first recorded dogfight of the war in Afhanistan and have issued a formal conplaint with the Taliban representative through the Swiss Embassy. The US has no formal diplomatic ties with the Taliban provisional government.
Salvage and recovery teams are enroute and the pilots remains will be properly buried in an old Spam can in accordance with Islamic Law.
The partially burned carpet reportedly has shown up on eBay, a popular bidding website. Bidding is at $9.50 so far with three days remaining.
